Annual Donald and Barbara Zucker Healthy Aging Lecture: Postoperative Delirium and the Acceleration of Brain Aging: Can We Stop the Snowball?

July 9, 2026 | 5pm ET (Virtual)

Dr. Paul García, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Columbia University. He serves as the Division Chief of Neuroanesthesia at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Dr. García’s research has been funded by the NIH, Veteran’s Affairs, and private foundations. His laboratory focuses on models of neuronal degeneration caused by age, anesthesia, or other pharmacologic exposure. Frequently this involves neurophysiologic recording from rodent brain tissue as well as behavioral testing in pre-clinical models. Dr. García has translated this research into the human/clinical realm. His clinical research projects involve investigating intraoperative EEG signatures and their association with adverse postoperative outcomes. His interests are in developing research that extends beyond traditional departmental boundaries and can drive system-level impact.

This annual series, hosted by the Northwell Roybal Center for Personalized Trials, features leading researchers at the intersection of aging-related topics including Alzheimer Disease and related dementias and physical activity.
