Fifth Geroscience Summit: Revisiting the Geroscience Hypothesis - Focus on Health
December 2-3, 2026 | NIH Campus, Building 35

Purpose and Background
Geroscience is an interdisciplinary field focused on the discovery and translation of methods and interventions targeting pathways involved in the biology of aging to prevent, minimize, or reverse chronic diseases and functional decline that frequently occur in older individuals. NIH supports the field of geroscience through research funding, educational/training opportunities, and the longstanding NIH Geroscience Interest Group (GSIG). The GSIG includes staff members from several NIH Institutes and Centers and develops scientific and educational events for the community.
The Fifth Geroscience Summit: Revisiting the Geroscience Hypothesis – Focus on Health will be held on December 2-3, 2026, and will bring together academic and industry researchers with clinicians and other groups invested in geroscience to examine recent progress and identify important knowledge gaps. The summit agenda includes eight sessions during which speakers will provide their high-level perspectives and share ideas for how to move the field forward.
The goals of the 5th Geroscience Summit are to:
Broadly assess the current state-of-the-science and identify key gaps in knowledge and future research directions in geroscience.
Accelerate gerotherapeutic development by fostering communication and collaboration among a multidisciplinary group of stakeholders.
Highlight and focus on the concept of “healthspan”, and identify tools, technologies, and research strategies that allow for more effective measurement of health across the life course.
Develop a roadmap for geroscience research that will help guide the field over the next 3-5 years.
Location
The summit will take place in Building 35 on the NIH main campus (9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD, 20892). There will also be a virtual option available on the NIH Videocast platform.
